» No. 25 Notre Dame missed 18 of their first 19 shots and trailed No. 20 Pittsburgh 19-3 on Monday. But the Irish closed out the first half on a 16-3 run and continued to ride the momentum in the second half to win 51-42 on Monday night.
» Top-ranked Baylor passed a tough road teast Monday night, rallying to beat No. 3 Connecticut 76-70 in a women's basketball showdown that certainly lived up to its billing. Former Cicero North-Syracuse star Breanna Stewart was held scoreless in seven minutes of action.

In case you missed this from Sunday night, Illinois State's Jackie Carmichael was called for a flagrant foul after kicking a Wichita State player late in the game. The foul ignited a late run by the Shockers and cost Illinois State the game. Carmichael's new nickname according to USA Today? "Some people on campus were calling me 'Jackie Chan Carmichael' If it wasn't such a bad memory, I might keep it," Carmichael said on Monday morning.
NBA
The season resumes Tuesday night after the all-star break. Here's how players with ties to Central New York are doing:
» Carmelo Anthony is second in the league in scoring 28.6 points per game.The Knicks are 32-18, lead the Atlantic Division and are second in the Eastern Conference.
» Andray Blatch is averaging 10 points, and 5.3 rebounds coming off the bench for the Brooklyn Nets. Brooklyn is second in the Atlantic Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference.
» Dion Waiters is second among rookies with 14.2 points per game. The Cavs are in 12th place in the Eastern Conference.
» Hakim Warrick has played 27 of his 28 games this season with the Charlotte Bobcats. The former Syracuse star is averaging 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds for the last-place Bobcats.
» Wes Johnson has only played in 21 games for the last-place Phoenix Suns, averaging 2.5 points.

Baseball
Derek Jeter received an ovation that could be heard throughout Steinbrenner Field when he jogged onto the diamond for the New York Yankees' first full-squad workout Monday. Jeter took part in most of the team drills, including on-field batting practice for the first time since undergoing ankle surgery last October.

» Claude Giroux scored 26 seconds into Monday's matinee against the New York Islanders, and added a goal and assist in the second period of the Flyers' 7-0 victory.
» Jakob Silfverberg had the lone shootout tally in the Senators' 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Monday.
