Five Northern California wine-tasting adventures

This spring and summer, Northern California is brimming with wine adventures. From Pinot Paradise in the Santa Cruz Mountains to a barrel-tasting weekend in the Livermore Valley, there is no end to the wine-tasting possibilities. Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Paradise

This three-day wine journey through arguably America's premier region for pinot noir production includes the chance to tour wineries, enroll in a technical seminar, attend a grand tasting featuring 30 wineries or indulge in an exclusive winemaker's dinner. Livermore Valley Barrel Tasting Weekend

Spend the weekend sampling wines straight from the barrel and purchasing "futures" of your favorites. More than 30 wineries will host you with a unique experience, including nibbles. Noon-4:30 p.m. March 23-24. www.lvwine.org.

Rock Wall Wine Company Urban Sip

The more than 30 wines in the Rock Wall wine portfolio will be paired with delectable bites from some of the best restaurants in the Bay Area at this outdoor event with live music. Try a barrel sample, meet the winemaker, or identify aromas and flavors at the sensory bar. Ten

Wine Riot

Grab a glass and hit the floor of the Concourse Exhibition Center to taste 250 wines from across the globe. Experience interactive booths and crash courses loaded with tips and tricks for conquering the wine world while enjoying DJ tunes a photo booth, and a mobile app that tracks your favorite wines and shows you where to buy them later. $55. Santa Cruz Mountains Passport Day

Missed Pinot Paradise? Not to fret. The Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association invites you back in April armed with a passport that gives you all-day access to wineries typically closed to the public. Some pour special wines or barrel samples on Passport days, which happen four times a year. Most wineries are open 11 a.m.-5 p.m., but call to confirm. April 20. $45. www.scmwa.com.
