Job Summary:
Assists in planning, directing and delivering public services in the Library.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the planning, coordinating and evaluating of library services
  • Participates in collection development and implementing a variety of library-based information technology applications
  • Assists in the development of Library policies and procedures
  • Trains and supervises support staff and student workers as directed
  • Assists customers with basic library needs, including conducting research, online database searching, selecting material, and developing research strategy
  • Prepares periodic reports pertaining to library services as directed
  • Provides orientations to the library through class presentations, tours, and individual instruction
  • Assists in the selection of new employees
  • In the absence of the Director and Assistant Director, assumes responsibility for library operations
  • Assists in developing, maintaining, and evaluating the collection to support instructional programs
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop library instruction and learning objectives to meet the needs of students and the college community
  • Participates in campus and District committees
  • Provides direct informational, reference, and reader's advisory services to the public
  • Helps to promote library awareness and use
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC) Institute
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation and creativity and service to the College
Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures:
  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA (American Library Association) accredited library program
  • Two (2) years of experience in library public service areas
  • Knowledge of automated library systems, web applications and software programming, and current Mac and Windows operating systems
  • Experience working with computerized systems including online databases, and assisting students with research projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
  • Excellent customer service, organizational and interpersonal skills
Desired Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensures:
  • Two (2) years of professional library experience in a community college setting
  • Demonstrated success in teaching
Physical Demands:

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representatives of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Special Instructions Summary:
This is a part-time position not to exceed 19.5 hours per week to include Friday-Sunday schedule when Weekend College is in session.
