San Antonio TX Real Estate for Sale or Homes for Sale ? Blog ...

Energy efficient home building is best described as an evolution because it is something that has occurred overtime. ?The federal government and several organizations have setup standards to calculate home efficiency but in most cases it something that only is encouraged and not required.

Most home builders, now a days, build an energy home with energy efficiency to appease the buyer because the rising cost of utilities have buyers asking the home builder what energy efficient building techniques they build into their home because buyer are also budgeting how much they will have to paying for utility when considering buying a new home.

So to answer the question ?what year did homes become more energy efficient,? the older the home, the less energy efficient it will be. ?The good news that there are some very simple energy efficient improvements that can be done that will improve the energy efficiency of a home. ?The number one improvement that can be done in improving home energy?efficiency?is increasing the R-value of insulation in the attic. ?Many older homes have between a R-13 to R-30 value insulation in where in most cases it is recommended to increase this R-value to somewhere between R-44 to R 48. ?Insulation is rather cheap so this improvement is typically well worth the money. ?Also placing radiant barrier on the inside of the roof will help keep the attic cool. ?Most companies are able to place spray radiant barrier in the inside of your roof. ?Lastly, placing solar fans in the roof, will help keep your attic cooler and help in the energy efficiency of your home. ?Changing out equipment, if probably the most costly upgrade to do but it absolutely?helps in improving a homes energy efficiency.

With any upgrade done to the home. ?I always recommend to do a cost analysis to determine your return on your investment which is how many months before your improvement pays itself back in the utility cost savings. ?If the return on your improvement makes sense to you then it is probably a good thing to do.

Exclusive 'Battleship': Taylor Kitsch Gets Flirty With Brooklyn Decker

In addition to alien-vs.-soldier action, the film has a softer side, as our exclusive clip shows.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Amy Wilkinson

"Fire all the weapons!" Liam Neeson yells in the first "Battleship" trailer, a command dutifully followed by a young naval officer in the film but one that failed to trigger the dude-I-gotta-see-this-movie jones of many moviegoers.

But we had a feeling a lot of folks were missing the point of both the popcorn flick's whiz-bang alien-vs.-soldier brawling and the sun-dappled human-on-human seduction giving "Battleship" its warm, gooey center. The film is perfectly constructed to fill the "Transformers"-sized hole in the summer movie calendar. Audiences overseas are already responding, shelling out $58 million to check it out since the April 11 foreign release. Our turn comes on May 18.

Before then, and having seen the CGI-heavy theatrics in "Battleship" trailers, it's time to take a look at the film's softer side. That's where MTV News' Summer Movie Preview comes into play, delivering an exclusive clip featuring Taylor Kitsch and his bodacious birthday wish, Brooklyn Decker.

The scene in the clip comes early in the film, with Kitsch's unemployed slacker, Alex Hopper, sharing a sad-sack birthday party in a dingy bar with his brother, Stone (Alexander Skarsgård). Then Brooklyn Decker's Samantha arrives, seeking a chicken burrito but not necessarily the attention of unemployed slackers. When unemployed slackers look like Taylor Kitsch, though, you can be pretty sure romance is going to bloom — until those pesky aliens arrive and put a damper on the relationship of two of the prettiest people on this, or any, planet.

Let's not keep Skarsgård out of the beauty contest. That's partly how he got the job. Director Peter Berg recently told MTV News that while he loved the actor's work as a vampire in "True Blood," it wasn't his résumé that won him the gig.

"All the girls in the office stormed into my office and demanded that we cast him," Berg said. "And then when I met him, my son was there, and [Alex] got out of his Audi R8 — that's my son's dream car. My son just stood there with his jaw open, staring first at him, then at his car, and he said, 'Dad, it's non-negotiable. Alex is in the movie.' "

Skarsgård's "Battleship" itch was a tad more substantive. "I was working on 'Melancholia' right before this, which is a Lars von Trier, European art-house movie. So I was excited about the combination of doing those two back-to-back," he explained to us. "But then it was also the fact that Pete is an actor and he knows actors and he cares about the characters. ... [He] talked more about the characters and the relationships than how amazing the explosions would look."

That perfectly explains the importance of our exclusive clip. "The movie is really the story of a younger brother trying to grow up and be a man like [his older brother]," Berg said. "There just happens to be an alien invasion in the middle of it."

It's Summer Movie Preview Week, and MTV News will be bringing you exclusive interviews, clips and photos for the most anticipated summer movies. Get ready to gorge on inside looks at "The Avengers," Robert Pattinson's "Bel Ami," Kristen Stewart's "Snow White," "The Amazing Spider-Man" and more!

Check out everything we've got on "Battleship."

Samsung 'GT-i9300' sighted in Brazil, may or may not be the Galaxy S III

GT-i9300

If you've been following the stories of rumored devices within Samsung's 2012 line-up, you may be familiar with a phone with the product number GT-i9300. When we first caught a glimpse of this device in late March, it was rocking a buttonless setup, with software-based on-screen keys in the style of the Galaxy Nexus. But if the latest set of leaked images from ?Gizmodo Brazil? are to be believed, then the phone may have grown a set of physical buttons over the past month. Photos have leaked today claiming to show the front and back of the device, and aside from the different button setup, they match last month's leaked pics pretty closely. Note the front-facing camera position and the trim around the device's corners.

The images are reportedly from a manufacturing source, which claims the GT-i9300 is a high-end product, with a 12MP rear camera (with dual-LED flash) and a high-quality display. It's also reportedly thinner than the Galaxy S II, but slightly heavier, with a larger screen. Whether it's Samsung's next flagship phone -- under the Galaxy S III name or some other branding -- remains to be seen.

As we discussed yesterday, we still know almost nothing about Samsung's next-gen plans. But all will be revealed at the launch event in London on May 3, and we'll be there to bring you full coverage of whatever's unveiled.

Lionel Richie Scores First #1 Album In 25 Years

Nicki Minaj's Roman Reloaded slips 68 percent in week two.

In what might mark one of the longest-ever droughts between #1 albums, Lionel Richie will have something to dance on the ceiling about next week, when his all-star country comeback album, Tuskegee, grabs the #1 spot on the Billboard 200. After debuting at #2 and falling to #4 last week, Richie managed to hit #1 on sales of 129,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.

Thanks to a sales increase of 35 percent boosted by his prime-time CBS special, "Lionel Richie and Friends," the former Commodores singer and solo star will be back on top for the first time since 1986's Dancing on the Ceiling.

Richie's numbers were more than enough to stop Adele from reclaiming the pole position, though she did move another 92,000 copies of 21, to put her past the 8.7 million mark. It was a major comedown for Nicki Minaj, as her first #1 debut, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, slipped 68 percent in its second week, falling to #3 on sales of 81,000.

Among the new faces in the top 10: Monica, whose New Life came in at #4 (69,000), blues veteran Bonnie Raitt, #6 with Slipstream (64,000), and rapper Hoodie Allen, who debuted at #10 with All American (27,000).

The rest of the top 10: One Direction, Up All Night (#5, 66,000); Gotye, Making Mirrors (up 111 percent following a "Saturday Night Live" appearance and a spot on "Glee" to #7 on sales of 54,000); Alabama Shakes, Boys & Girls (up eight spots to #8, 43,000); and Rascal Flatts, who dropped six spots in week two to #9 with Changed (41,000).

Counting Crows mark a return to the charts with a #11 bow for Underwater Sunshine (or what we did on our summer vacation) (27,000), while Madonna's MDNA continued its free-fall, dropping 10 more spots in week three to #18 as sales fell another 56 percent to 21,000.

Those high-profile appearances helped Gotye grab the #1 spot on the iTunes singles chart with "Somebody That I Used to Know," which bested fun.'s "We Are Young." The #3 position belonged to One Direction ("What Makes You Beautiful"), followed by Justin Bieber ("Boyfriend"), Carly Rae Jepsen ("Call Me Maybe"), Nicki's "Starships," Flo Rida ("Wild Ones"), The Wanted ("Glad You Came"), Kanye West ("Mercy") and the "Glee" cast's version of "Somebody That I Used to Know."

Richie reigned supreme on the iTunes albums chart as well, followed by One Direction, Gotye, Hoodie Allen, Minaj, Adele, Raitt, Of Monsters and Men's My Head Is an Animal, Alabama Shakes and Trip Lee's The Good Life.

Next week will bring new releases from Jason Mraz, Train and Jack Johnson.

Imagine Dragons Go Big With 'It's Time' Video, But Still Eat Burritos

Fast-rising Las Vegas band — MTV PUSH Artist of the Week — premiere first video on MTV.
By James Montgomery

Imagine Dragons have been waiting three years for today: On Tuesday (April 17), they premiered their video for "It's Time," the breakout (currently at #17 and climbing on rock radio) single from their Continued Silence EP. The clip represents the first fruits of their new deal with Interscope Records, and, for a band that has taken its time to get to this point, well, they're definitely enjoying the moment.

"We had this idea in our heads for a long time, but, you know, we could never make it," frontman Dan Reynolds told MTV News. "Until we found a director who could bring it to life. We went out to Barstow [California] — which is between Las Vegas and L.A., and we've made that drive many times, because we're from Vegas — and we shot it on a dry lake bed. It was our first time doing a music video, so it was a really awesome experience."

And while the clip — basically an updated take on the old "Jack and the Beanstalk" tale, with the band starring as mystic travelers in a very dark world, carrying a very special parcel — certainly looks cool, it also works as a rather apt metaphor for Imagine Dragons' rise. Since forming in Vegas in 2009, Imagine Dragon (the current MTV PUSH Artist of the Week) have been on one long voyage, one that's certainly had its share of ups and downs along the way.

"I remember one gig [where] we were playing a casino, in Vegas, and it was a really small stage," guitarist Wayne Sermon smiled. "We played a four-hour set — we'd do those two to three times a week — and we were exhausted, and Dan passes out in the middle of the last song, falls on the drum set, the drums go everywhere, and it was horrible, but we finished the song."

"And all these drunk guys were like, 'Wooo!' " Reynolds laughed. "But it didn't hurt; I was so tired, it was sort of nice to have a little break."

So with their first proper video out in the world, and plans to begin work on their full-length debut already in the works, Imagine Dragons continue to march on. And in that regard, things are still the same as they've ever been.

"It's crazy. We've been a band for three years, living on the road, eating bean burritos every day, and we're still eating bean burritos every day, but it's been incredible to see the support that we've gotten," Reynolds said. "We really owe so much to our fans who, from the very beginning, have been sharing the music. And we live in a world where things can happen so quickly, and we're glad we've had three years to really prepare. ... We've been doing it for a little while, and it feels good ... and right."
